If Berlin's city government had to choose one public holiday to add or move for 2030, should it make Reformation Day, 31 October, a fully paid holiday city-wide, or shift the Labour Day May 1 bridge days into a single long weekend that boosts tourism?

Reformation Day or May Bridge Weekend: Berlin's Holiday Choice for 2030

Good evening, and welcome to ChatShow, where our panel explores tonight's question about Germany. It's Denzai here, moderating, and the question is whether Berlin should, for 2030, choose between making Reformation Day a fully paid city-wide holiday or moving the May 1 bridge days into one long weekend that boosts tourism. Berlin already added Women's Day in 2019 through a full parliamentary process — the Senate drafts a bill, the Abgeordnetenhaus votes, and businesses absorb the cost. Adding another day means repeating that entire cycle. Employers here already carry fewer productive days than most EU capitals. Brandenburg has Reformation Day; Berlin doesn't need to copy it.
